I taped and sanded the inside of the canopy where it will be bonded to the canopy frame. Electrical tape to make the edge and followed up with a layer of frog tape.
I drilled the 1/4 inch holes first with a #30 bit then used a grinding bit to open it up to size then a round grinder bit to give it a slight countersink. Grinding is better than drilling on acrylic, less chance of creating stress cracks since you are essentially melting the plastic. I know it looks messy on the back side in this photo but once sanded to give some tooth, it was smooth with no jagged edges. This photo shows post grinding without any cleanup so there are bits of plastic everywhere.
